Days 1-3 | Tarangire & Lake Manyara National Parks

After a night in Arusha, we travel the short distance to Tarangire National Park, well known for its baobab trees and huge elephant population, and is considered one of the best places to view elephants up close in Tanzania. It forms the centre of the annual migratory cycle that includes up to 3000 elephant, 25,000 wildebeest and 30,000 zebra. Next we head to Lake Manyara National Park which is located at the north-western corner of Lake Manyara, a hallow soda lake, which lies at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The park is not only known for its large flocks of flamingos, but also for the elusive tree climbing lions.

Days 4-5 | Ngorongoro Crater & Serengeti National Park

We continue onwards through the Rift Valley escarpment towards the world famous Ngorongoro Crater. For many, this wildlife spectacle is the pinnacle of their safari experience. The Ngorongoro Crater boasts all of the ‘Big 5’, including a small population of endangered black rhino. After a game drive and picnic lunch, we head towards the Serengeti through the stunning Southern Plains. This is the area that the Serengeti is best known for – the endless, undulating grass savannah with rocky outcrops that serve as isolated wildlife refuges. Witha full-day game drive we explore the plains of the Seronera area, which is particularly good for lion and cheetah sightings, as well as the most elusive of all big cats, the leopard.

Days 6-7 | Karatu & Arusha

As our safari comes to an end, we retrace our steps with a morning game drive through the Serengeti before continuing onto Karatu, visiting the Olduvai Gorge along the way. After some last minute curio shopping, we head back to Arusha where the tour ends.
