Days 1-3 | Tarangire & Lake Manyara National Parks

We travel the short distance from Arusha to Tarangire National Park, where giant baobab trees, bush savannah and the seasonal marshes add to the wonder of this nature reserve, which is considered one of the best places to view elephants up close in Tanzania. From here it is a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park, known for its over 400 bird species, primate-filled forests and tree-climbing lions. A large area of the park is covered by the alkaline Lake Manyara, the seasonal breeding grounds for large colonies of flamingos !

Days 4-5 | Serengeti National Park

Next we travel via the cooler highlands towards the southern Serengeti, the largest national park in Tanzania, with its diverse habitats and landscapes of short grass plains, savannah, thick bush, swamps and lakes. Bizarre rock formations called kopjes dot the grassy landscape where predators are often seen. Our lengthy game drives here promise to be nothing short of superb.

Days 6-7 | Ngorongoro Crater & Karatu

We continue our journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with its breath-taking views from the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater into the giant caldera below. The massive collapsed volcano is home to over 25,000 mammals ranging from the Big Five, to spotted hyenas, rare wild dogs and some of the more than 500 bird species of the area. We are lucky to spend most of the day in the Crater, as well as visiting Karatu in the Ngorongoro highlands where we take a walk in the coffee plantation to learn more about the cultivation and processing of the famous coffee from the region. Sadly all good things must come to an end and our tour group is returned to Arusha for onward journeys home or extended African adventures.
