Days 1-3 | Tarangire, Lake Manyara & Ngorongoro

We travel the short distance from Arusha to Tarangire National Park, where giant baobab trees, bush savannah and the seasonal marshes add to the wonder of this nature reserve, which is considered one of the best places to view elephants up close in Tanzania. From here it is a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park, known for its over 400 bird species, primate-filled forests and tree-climbing lions. A large area of the park is covered by the alkaline Lake Manyara, the seasonal breeding grounds for large colonies of flamingos! We continue our journey to the Ngorongoro Crater, a huge collapsed volcano that is home to over 25,000 mammals ranging from the Big Five, to spotted hyenas, rare wild dogs and some of the more than 500 bird species of the area.

Days 4-6 | Serengeti & Lake Victoria

Next we head towards the central Serengeti, the largest national park in Tanzania, with its diverse habitats and landscapes of short grass plains, savannah, thick bush, swamps and lakes. Bizarre rock formations called kopjes dot the grassy landscape where predators are often seen. Our lengthy game drives here promise to be nothing short of superb. After leaving the park, the safari continues to Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa and the second largest in the world. Herewe will have the chance to see another side of Tanzania, experiencing the lives of the local people. We can watch fishermen at work and visit a local school - an experience unavailable on the usual tourist routes - and go on a guided canoe trip.

Days 7-10 | Maasai Mara

The road towards the Kenyan border is a long an adventurous one, but is well worth it as the Mara is reputed to have the highest lion population of all reserves in Africa. Other large cats like leopards and cheetahs also live here and can be spotted all year round, as their sightings are not dependent upon the seasons or the migration. Our time here will be spent on lengthy rewarding safaris in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve across 4 nights.

Days 11-13 | Nairobi & Amboseli

We leave behind the bush to return to civilisation and the bustling capital of Nairobi where you have a night to relax on this city stopover. Our final journey takes us to Amboseli National Park close to the Tanzanian border, famous for the iconic images of elephant herds on the plains with the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro in the background. Sadly all good things must come to an end and our tour group is returned to Nairobi for onward journeys home or extended African adventures.
